Scope
Art that doesn't take itself too seriously — except it does.
Art Pickles is an art collective and gallery space with a name that already tells you something about their relationship with the art world's tendency towards solemnity. They make and show serious work, but they refuse to be precious about it. The brief was to build a brand that shared that quality — rigorous but irreverent, gallery-worthy but accessible.
The identity plays with the tension between the refined language of contemporary art branding and something more direct, more street-level. The typography mixes weights in ways that shouldn't work but do. The colour palette is unexpected for an art space. The grid breaks when it needs to.
Social media for an art collective is an opportunity that most galleries waste by treating it as a digital extension of their white wall. We treated it as its own medium — with its own logic, its own pace, its own relationship with the work being shown.
